U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission)
     The Commission is authorized and directed: "to monitor the acts of the signatories which reflect compliance with or violation of the articles of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, with particular regard to the provisions relating to Human Rights and Cooperation in Humanitarian Fields . . .," and "to report to the House of Representatives and the Senate with respect to the matters covered by this Act on a periodic basis and to provide information to Members of the House and Senate as requested."   This is a bi-partisan office.

U.S. Political Party International Institutes

    Both the Republicans and Democrats have organizations that help promote democracy in developing countries.  They have positions available both in their Washington offices and abroad.

International Republican Institute
     In addition to their Washington office, IRI conducts programs outside the United States to promote democracy and strengthen free markets and the rule of law. National Democratic Institute for International Affairs
    The National Democratic Institute is a nonprofit organization working to strengthen and expand democracy worldwide. Public Policy Organizations

     Many organizations help place job-seekers with various public policy organizations and government offices.  All of the below have international departments or organizations that are involved in foreign affairs.  Many of them have job or internship information posted on their web-sites.  Weh have listed their mailing addresses if you would like to send them your resume.

The Atlantic Council of the United States:
     The Atlantic Council is a non partisan network who is convinced of the pivotal importance of effective U.S. foreign policy and the cohesion of U.S. international relationships. Council on Foreign Relations:
     Founded in 1921, the Council on Foreign Relations is a nonpartisan membership organization, research center, and publisher. The European Institute:
     The European Institute is a Washington-based public-policy organization devoted to transatlantic affairs. The Foreign Policy Association:
     The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan, nongovernmental, educational organization founded in 1918 to educate Americans about the significant international issues that influence their lives. FPA provides impartial publications, programs and forums to increase public awareness of, and foster popular participation in, matters relating to those policy issues. Middle East Policy Council:
     The Middle East Policy Council was founded in 1981 to expand public discussion and understanding of issues affecting U.S. policy in the Middle East. National Institute for Public Policy:

The Nixon Center

World Affairs Council of Washington

The United Nations

     The United Nations Headquarters Internship Program is offered to students enrolled in graduate school, with a view to promoting a better understanding of major problems confronting the world and giving them an insight into how the United Nations attempts to find solutions to these problems. The programme consists of three two-month periods throughout the year: mid-January to mid-March, mid-May to mid-July, and mid-September to mid-November. As the UN has no provision in its budget to pay interns, all costs connected with internships must be borne by the students concerned or by their sponsoring institutions or governments.
